2 rooms are available in my 'homestay' for cyclists & walkers making pitstops whilst visiting this historic part of Northumberland. Bike storage, dry room and a fantastic breakfast offered!
Old Bewick Homestay
As a 'home away from home' I have one double and one twin room available for cyclists or walkers visiting this fantastic part of Northumberland. Bedding is included and both rooms have reading lights, storage and breathtaking views across to the Cheviots. Guests share the upstairs bathroom. Tea and coffee making facilities are available in the kitchen as is free Wifi (although it can be patchy due to the remote location). My dining room has comfy seating available should you wish for a separate area to sit in in the evenings. An open fire is available too for those cooler nights. Clothes can be washed but there is no tumble dryer.
I have three dogs so be ready for a great welcome! Your dog is welcome too but let's discuss logistics first. There is a front and back garden for use, along with chickens and Indian Runner ducks providing the entertainment. I include a free light breakfast of porridge, cereals or freshly laid eggs on toast in the cost as well as free tea and coffee at all times. I also have an outdoor hose to wash your bikes or equipment.
Price and extras
Rooms are £30 / person / per night (November to March) and £40 / person / per night (April to October). Full English Breakfast is available at an additional charge. I'm also a qualified and insured holistic and sports injury massage therapist so if you need to relax and ease those tired muscles I offer 30 / 60 / 90 minute massages for £20 / £40 / £60 in a fully equipped therapy room.
About Old Bewick
Old Bewick, with its elevated position, has breathtaking views of the Cheviots and is notable for its Bronze Age cairn, Iron Age hill fort, and rock art (petroglyphs) exhibiting the characteristic cup and ring marks. Close by and tucked away is the small but beautiful Old Bewick Church, some of which dates back to the 11th Century. If you have the time I'd recommend the great walk up to Blawearie. Said to mean "tired of the wind", the walk skirts Bewick Hill, with its dramatic double hill fort, winds up to Bewick Moor and ends up at Blawearie House,. Fronted by a Bronze Age burial cairn, the 19th Century house was the home of a shepherding family, and is thought to have been abandoned before the Second World War. The views from here are truly inspiring.
Situated 40 minutes from Cycle Route 68 and 1 hour 15 mins inland from Route 1
Old Bewick is on the 470 bus route so it's easy to get around between Alnwick and Wooler via Chillingham and Chatton.
20 minutes to the A1 or 10 minutes to the A697.
Full T&C's will be sent in the response to your enquiry. The dogs, chickens, ducks and of course myself hope to welcome you soon.
