Located at the foot of the S. Downs near Lewes, our bespoke garden cabin has a double cabin bed, ensuite shower/WC & cover to park bikes. Organic plant based food is served here. 2 night minimum stay.
Hut Therapy has been set up as a therapeutic space with the intention of helping others. The feel in side the therapy hut is something akin to a large railway carriage, but it has a real earthy & grounding feel - very conducive to a good night's sleep. The hut itself is constructed from wood salvaged from an agricultural barn & there are many recycled fittings and fixtures inside. We have selected natural materials wherever possible but without compromising on comfort. The cabin bed mattress is a thick futon made of cotton wadding and there is a choice of lambs wool & duck feather duvets.
Food is prepared by the host, Gilly Webber, a Macrobiotic Association UK accredited cook & health adviser. Guests who come to explore macrobiotic food can share whole food cooking with the owner in the kitchen or simply enjoy a macrobiotic breakfast, whole food lunch box or macrobiotic quality, evening meal cooked for them. The emphasis is on natural, seasonal whole food, food without preservatives, additives and other processed foods - a welcome anecdote to modern, fast-pace, instant living. Some animal food & products are available for those who want something closer to what they eat at home - butter, milk & yoghurt are available at breakfast, and, fish at other meals - but essentially the emphasis is on organic, plant-based foods. The food & lifestyle here is slow and mindful, so we appreciate you asking in advance .
We cater for gluten free, sugar free, lactose free & other diets naturally.
WITHIN CYCLING DISTANCE
East Chiltington is an agricultural community of about 180 households. Agricultural labourers used to live in the group of houses known as School Cottages during the 1930s/40s with a primary school situated nearby in Novington Lane. In the hamlet, there is a 15th century church and the Jolly Sportsman, a restaurant and public house offering quality yet informal country dinning. These are both a few minutes walk from the Hut, down Chapel Lane.
For serious & casual walkers, horse riders & cyclists there is a large network of footpaths & bridal paths at our door. The South Downs Way National Trail, a long distance route traversing the length of South Downs escarpment, is just over a mile away.
From the Hut, a local bike ride might take you along an ancient Roman track with spectacular views of the Downs, via the pretty hamlets of Street & Westmeston, to the village of Ditchling - home of artists & craftsmen, tea rooms & award winning museum. The landscape of rolling hills, chalk grasslands, ancient woodland & rivers is truly magnificent.
Within short cycling distance is the Half Moon pub in Plumpton, our personal favourite for quality, locally sourced food & drink. Take North Barnes Lane opposite the Village stores at Plumpton if arriving at Plumpton station, our nearest point of access by train .
The nearest town is Lewes, 4 miles along the South Downs Way, and has a castle, auction rooms & antique emporia, interesting shops & pubs, and many possibilities for light lunches & afternoon teas. It has been home to Harvey’s independent brewery since 1790 and the Lewes Bonfire Societies' firework spectacle on Guy Fawkes Day on November 5th, a tradition dating back to the 16th century.
Brighton, 11 miles away, its universities, beach and pier, many restaurants, cultural & nightlife are accessible by train from Plumpton via Lewes. The Seven Sisters Coastline including Birling Gap & Beachy Head, Glyndebourne Opera House, Charleston Farmhouse, many National Trust properties including Standen Arts & Crafts House at East Grinstead & other areas of natural beauty - Ashdown Forest & the Kent Weald - all make interesting trips out by bike.
