Today the first ever Hay Bike Fest kicks off with a host of led rides and cycle training courses from the Festival hub at Hay Castle. To celebrate this new-found cycle hub, Beds for Cyclists has teamed up with Green Holidays Wales (GHW), to promote their eco-friendly accommodation providers and cycling in Wales. All cycle friendly Green Holiday Wales’ hosts are now listed on Beds for Cyclists, giving two wheeled visitors the opportunity to make their visit truly green.

Green Holidays Wales is a group of holiday accommodation providers and other tourism businesses, dotted throughout Mid Wales, working together to become more sustainable. Their eco-friendly awards are based on the recognised and reputable Green Business Tourism Scheme standards.

Tim Withers of Green Holidays Wales says “It’s a really natural partnership with Beds for Cyclists as we’re passionate about sustainable tourism and keeping Wales a special place to visit for generations to come. Cycling is one of the greenest ways of explore Wales, and a truly rewarding one too.”

Wales is becoming increasingly recognised as a cycling destination. The Sustrans’ Valley Cycle Network project is adding hundreds of miles of routes in South Wales, and a new ground-breaking Active Travel Bill has made it a legal requirement for local authorities to make it easier for people to cycle and walk. Green Holidays Wales have also created an interactive route planning and route discovery tool using the free ViewRanger mapping app.

Sam Howard, Beds for Cyclists Marketing Director says “I’m delighted to be working with working with Green Holidays Wales to promote cycling and their eco-friendly hosts as Wales is an absolute favourite cycling destination of mine. The plethora of quiet country lanes and gorgeous scenery make it a cyclists’ haven.

A primary motivation for creating Beds for Cyclists was to encourage others to embrace our passion for sustainable tourism. We want to help others enjoy cycling holidays in beautiful places, without impacting on the surrounding environment and working with Green Holidays Wales will help us realise this goal.”

There are various signed long distance cycle route in Wales, such as the Radnor Ring in Powys, and the North to South Wales Lon Las Cymru cycle route. Beds for Cyclists now has comprehensive cycle friendly listings for these routes. Anna Gist, Beds for Cyclists user said “In July we are riding the Lon Las Cymru route and your website was a really valuable resource for finding B&Bs along the route. It made finding and booking B&Bs so much easier, and now we can concentrate on looking forward to the ride.”

As cyclists flock to Hay-on-Wye  this weekend to take part the Bike Fest, they can be sure to find a cycle and eco-friendly place to rest their tired legs at the end of the day.
